"Mrs. Stubbs-Hammond, what is the difference between websites that are 'Acceptable & Appropriate' (AA), and "Unacceptable"?
Well, thank you for asking. This is a blog 'Question & Comment' post. We will discuss which websites are:
ACCEPTABLE
APPROPRIATE
and those that are
UNACCEPTABLE
or
INAPPROPRIATE.
If it has an "AA" rating, it is a site that is okay, educational, and appropriate for school time learning. It has at least ONE STANDARD to give it an AA rating.
If it is UNACCEPTABLE, it is not okay to use during school hours. It does not meet educational standards. The author's purpose here would be to simply ENTERTAIN. A good time to use these sites would be before school (after Spring Break and Testing), after school, at home, or at your local Jacksonville Public Library branch.
If it is deemed INAPPROPRIATE, it has content that is neither educational, nor age appropriate. It is illegal to be on inappropriate sites, and therefore, is NOT OK.
I post sites to destiny.duvalschools.org that have learning standards attached to them. I also post things here to monstermediamayhem.blogspot.com that are also educational, with mostly standards attached to them, though I also like to post occasional sites that are "Acceptable" as an example of Author's Purpose of: To Entertain.
"Free Time" is time earned for awesome Interactive Journal notes. "Free Time" means you have a choice beyond iReady, Achieve 3000, to use Destiny or MonsterMediaMayhem.blogspot.com. PBSKids.org is an example of an AA Free Time Choice. An example of an UNACCEPTABLE site would be Friv.
Anyone on UNACCEPTABLE or INAPPROPRIATE are not allowed to use the computers in the media center for 45 days, and parents are notified.
For today's 'Question & Comment', share a suggestion of an AA site and we'll discuss it online. Remember, your comments come to me first for approval for publishing, so be patient if you don't see them right away. I'm always looking to add new and exciting things, and I get my best suggestions from the greatest kids- my students! So let's blog!
:) Ms. Stubbs-Hammond
